13th International Sagarmatha Day (Everest Day) Celebrated at Tourism MinistrySunday, May 31st, 2020

The 13th International Sagarmatha Day (Everest Day) was celebrated on May 29, 2020, with the theme “Sagarmatha (Mt. Everest) Inspires for Resilience” at the Ministry of Culture, Tourism & Civil Aviation (MoCTCA) in the presence of the Hon’ble Minister for Culture, Tourism & Civil Aviation Mr. Yogesh Bhattarai as the Chief Guest.

A minute silence was observed at the program in memory of deceased mountaineers, and standing ovation was given to the heroes Tenzing Norgay Sherpa and Sir Edmund Hillary who created a milestone in the history of mankind when they reached the highest peak, 8,848 m, on May 29, 1953. Hon’ble Tourism Minister was positive about the resilience of the Nepali tourism industry akin to that of Everest, hoping quick revival of tourism post COVID 19, as he wished the tourism fraternity on the occasion of the 13th Sagarmatha Day.

Secretary of MoCTCA and Chairman of International Sagarmatha Day Main Organizing Committee Mr. Kedar Bahadur Adhikari, Director General of the Department of Tourism Mr. Dandu Raj Ghimire, Member Secretary of the 13th International Sagarmatha Day Main Organizing Committee Mr. Santa Bir Lama, Chief Executive Office of Nepal Tourism Board (NTB) Dr. Dhanjanjay Regmi were also present at the program along with high-level Government officials, tourism association heads, eminent Everest summiteers.
