Nepal promoted at the 2nd China International Import Expo (CIIE) 2019Friday, November 15th, 2019
The Second China International Import Expo (CIIE), a multisectoral expo that included three major aspects of economy i.e. trade, tourism and investment was inaugurated on 5th November 2019. The CIIE 2018, the brainchild of President Xi Zinping became a great successs and hence the second edition of CIIE ie CIIE 2019 is extended for 10 days where public are also allowed to visit. 3893 companies across 180 countries are participating in the event. Over 500 goods, technologies or service products made their debut at the expo.
The Expo was inaugurated on 5th Nov. 2019, by the Chinese Premier amongst the heads of State and the high-level representatives around the globe. The inaugural session was graced by the presence of Prime Ministers of Greece, Jamaica and Serbia. The presidential remark highlighted his desire to work together to build an open world economy through cooperation, to work together to build an open world economy with innovation and to work together to build an open world economy for mutual benefits.
Nepal’s participation in this global event was coordinated by Trade and Export
Promotion Center (TEPC), Nepal which was led by Mr Baikuntha Aryal, Secretary from the Ministry of Industry, Commerce & Supply. The delegation comprised of representatives from the Ministry of Industry, Commerce & Supply, TEPC, Nepal Tourism Board (NTB), Nepal Investment Board (NIB), Fair Trade Group and Private Sector.
Nepal Tourism Board provided necessary information about Nepal to the overwhelming visitors and also distributed them brochures, posters and souvenirs. The traditional stone tap, metal art and artifacts triggered the interest of visitors and media to Nepal pavilion. The footfalls were so high that the organizer could give entry passes to only 60 percent of the total online registrations in the first 6 days. The visitors were curious about Nepal and Nepali handicraft products and Jewelry.
The recent visit of Chinese President to Nepal and his expression of acquaintance with the national wide campaign of Visit Nepal 2020 and its target to attract 2 million tourists seems to have gained momentum. It was supported by the keen interest expressed by the visitors who were looking forward to visit Nepal — key role in realizing the goal of 2 million. Added to that the appointment of the famous Chinese actress Xu Qing as the goodwill Ambassador of VN 2020 also has sensitized the fan followers.
Nepal Stall was branded in the theme of Visit Nepal 2020 and the interest of Chinese people to Nepal is very encouraging. Participation in such fairs will definitely help in achieving the goal of Visit Nepal 2020.
The number of Chinese visitors is increasing quite remarkably. The recent statistics shows that the number has been raised to 134244 for the last 10 months of the year. This sort of joint effort will be pivotal to penetrate Chinese market and to allure more visitors to Nepal.
