Kailash Kher performs in Kathmandu

Indian pop and rock star Kailash Kher performed over a dozen Nepali and Hindi songs before 1500 fans at Hotel Soaltee on April 13, 2011. The programme was organised by JPR events, the same organisation, which organised the grand concert of Canadian rock star Bryan Adams at Dashrath Stadium few months ago.

Fewa New Year fest aims to promote Pokhara as int'l destination

The eighth Fewa New Year Festival kicked off in Pokhara from April 11, 2011. Organized by Western Regional Hotel Association the festival is aimed to promote Pokhara as one of the best international tourism destination. A "special marathon race" for the tourists visiting Pokhara during the eighth Fewa New Year Festival 2011 was also orgazied dusring the festival.

International Canyoning Rendezvous (ICR) 2011

ICR 2011 was held in the Marsyangdi Valley from April 7 to 13, 2011. It is the first of its kind in Asia. Organized at the initiative of the Nepal Canyoning Association (NCA) and with the promotion of Nepal Tourism Board, the event was instrumental in promoting canyoning as yet another vital adventure sporting activity in the country. This mega event was participated by 171 international Canyoneers from France, Italy, Spain, USA, Greece, Germany, Netherlands, Switzerland, Canada, Mexico, Belgium, Latvia plus 5 canyoneers from Nepal.

'Tongue piercing' festival begins in Bhaktapur

Bisket Jatra, a festival celebrated with fanfare in ancient city of Bhaktapur started from April 10, 2011. The famous festival, which is observed for eight consecutive nights and nine days, has been marked since the Lichchhivi era (c. 450-c. 750), according to historical records.

The festival is also famous for an exciting tongue piercing ceremony that takes place during the chariot procession. A volunteer from the Shrestha family gets his tongue pierced in a spiritual trance with an iron spike and walks around the town shouldering a round bamboo rack with flaming torches. It is believed that the successful completion of this painful rite brings good fortune to the villagers & the volunteer himself.

Nepal celebrates New Year 2068

Nepalis across the country and living abroad celebrated the Nepali New Year 2068 by exchanging good wishes with each other and organizing various functions on April 14, 2011.

Naturally Nepal promoted in India

Nepal Tourism Board along with The Everest Hotel, Kathmandu participated in the 2nd NEWSWIRE India Outbound MICE Travel Mart held on 8th April in Mumbai. The Mart was attended by over 50 sellers comprising of Tourism Boards/Authorities from various countries like Dubai, South Africa, Hongkong, Indonesia, Finland, Bhutan,Czech Republic, Fiji, UK, Switzerland etc. along with major Tour Operators/associations of the countries.

During the interaction with the corporate purchasers, it was revealed that most of the company planners were keen to explore newer destinations, especially those who would offer a variety of tourist attractions/innovative travel products. Ms. Ujjwala Dali - Senior Manager updated all the visiting buyers about the changed scenario of Nepal with peace and stability established in the country. The buyers were informed about NTY 2011 campaign and the Govt. initiatives to make the campaign a success.
