International Conference on Destination Management

3rd international conference is being held from 27-30 April, 2011 in the Yak & Yeti Hotel, Kathmandu. The conference aims to provide a forum for academics, emerging researchers, policy-makers, industry practitioners, and destination management and marketing professionals to discuss and debate key issues in the planning and management of more sustainable special interest tourism.

The conference also marks the celebration of Nepal’s Year of Tourism 2011. And participants from 15 countries are taking part in the conference. The conference is hosted by the Department of Travel & Aviation, Buckinghamshire New University, UK, in Partnership with Nepal Tourism Board, Nepal College of Travel and Tourism Management (affiliated to Tribhuvan University) and Help2Educate, Nepal.

North Indian Sales Mission

Nepalese tourism received encouraging response from the North Indian Travel trade and media during the recently concluded Sales Mission to Punjab & Rajasthan. Aiming to update the media and travel trade about the National campaign NTY 2011, and also to highlight on various upcoming as well as “must see” destinations of Nepal, Nepal Tourism Board recently organized a Media Briefing and Travel/Tour Operators Meet in the major cities of North India – Chandigarh, Ludhiana, Amritsar, and Jaipur – from 18-22 April, 2011.

During the four city events, about 130 major tour operators and over 70 print T.V. and online media were briefed about Nepal Tourism Year 2011 campaign by Ms. Ujjwala Dali, Senior Manager – Tourism Marketing and Promotion. While highlighting on the Govt and private sector initiatives for the campaign Mrs. Dali also urged the tour operators to try and push the destinations like Muktinath, Bandipur and the upcoming soft adventure activities for the North Indian travelers.

Nepal to hold int'l folk music film festival

Nepal Folk Musical Instruments Museum is going to hold an international folk music film festival in capital Kathmandu from November 25 to 27. The international folk music film festival themed "Music for Life and Survival" is organized for promoting the study and research on different aspects of the Nepali folk songs, folk music, folk musical instruments, folk dances, folk culture and folklore and for publicizing its folk heritage.

The objective of organizing the international folk music film festival is to promote sharing of national and international experiences in the field of folk music and folk culture. More than 35 films and documentaries from 15 countries will be screened as part of the festival.

Nepal to host int'l hoteliers meet

The International Hotel and Restaurant Association (IHR&A;) is holding its next world congress in Kathmandu, Nepal in the first week of December 2011. The event is being organised in Nepal for the first time after almost four decades. The association had held one of its previous congresses in Nepal way back in 1968. The announcement was made during the visit of the Association's President Dr Ghassan Aidi who was on Nepal visit early this week.
