Visit Nepal 2020 promoted in three second tier cities in ChinaSunday, May 12th, 2019

Nepal Tourism Board (NTB) in coordination with Nepal Embassy in Beijing conducted Destination Promotion Programs in three prospective cities of China. The cities covered were Jinan - Capital of Shandong Province (6th May), Nanjing - Capital of Jiangsu Province (8th May) and Hangzhou- Capital of Zhejiang Province (10th May).
NTB used these platforms to primarily promote the Visit Nepal Year 2020 Campaign. The programs successfully showcased Nepal as a premier and preferred holiday destination for prospective Chinese tourists through the Chinese media and trade.
China is a fast-growing value market for Nepal. As the world’s biggest outbound tourism market and top tourism spender, China is a key tourism market for meeting the targeted arrival numbers for Visit Nepal 2020. A growing pattern has been seen in the arrival numbers of Chinese tourists with 46.8 percent rise in 2018 compared to 2017. In 2019 too, Chinese tourist arrival numbers are on the rise as compared to 2018.
All the three cities of Jinan, Nanjing and Hangzhou have steadily growing economy with increased per capita income. The rising standard of living of the Chinese nationals in these cities along with the availability of disposable income and travel expenditure pattern are expected to play a significant role in boosting Nepal’s tourism.
The participants of the program were the representatives of City Tourism Bureaus, Regional Tourism Associations, Outbound Tour Operators and Media. They had multiple queries about Nepal relating to connectivity, safety, food, currency, activities and the like. NTB officials answered their questions and detailed the selling points of Nepal in their presentation.
Destination Nepal videos in Chinese language were shown at the programs. Nepalese cultural dances and songs were also performed by the Nepalese students in the cities of Nanjing and Hangzhou on the occasions. A total number of over 200 Outbound Tour Operators and Media attended the program in all three cities.
His Excellency the Ambassador of Nepal to China, Mr. Lila Mani Paudyal and Nepal Embassy Officials helped in the effective coordination of the events in the different cities. Mr. Rohini Prasad Khanal, Manager and Mr. Kundan Sharma, Sr. Officer represented NTB in the programs.
